Regina King Lands Deal at ABC

Regina King in “The Leftovers”: HBO

Emmy winner Regina King has landed a two-year deal with ABC studios for her production company Royal Ties, Shadow and Act reports. She runs the company with her sister, Reina King, whose official title is development executive. The deal will involve developing new projects for ABC.

Actress and director King most recently signed on for Netflix’s crime drama “Seven Seconds.” The series comes from “The Killing” creator Veena Sud and, as we previously reported, will explore the tensions and conflicts “between African-American citizens and Caucasian cops in Jersey City, where a teenage African-American boy is critically injured by a cop.”

King has had a slew of excellent television roles the past couple of years. She joined the second season of HBO’s “The Leftovers” and will also appear in the third. She also starred in the first two seasons of the anthology series “American Crime,” for which she earned back-to-back Emmy Awards. She’s set for that third season as well. She’s also an experienced TV director, having helmed episodes of “Scandal,” “Being Mary Jane,” and “Greenleaf,” among others.

As THR continues, “King joins a handful of other black content creators who also have production deals with the studio, including Shonda Rhimes, Kenya Barris, John Ridley, Kerry Washington, Viola Davis and, most recently, Larry Wilmore.”
