Meg Ryan Heading to TV, Will Topline Epix Comedy

Meg Ryan in “Web Therapy”

Meg Ryan is coming to the small screen. The three-time Golden Globe nominee has signed on to topline “Picture Paris,” a half-hour comedy series “being eyed by Epix,” Variety reports.

Written and directed by Brad Hall (“Frasier”), the show will “focus on a suburban empty-nester who heads to Paris with her husband, only to find the trip isn’t quite the dream she anticipated.” “Picture Paris” is reportedly being “fast-tracked for a straight-to-series order.” The series is an adaptation of Hall’s 2011 short of the same name, which starred Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Hall is married to the “Veep” actress.

“Picture Paris” marks Ryan’s first series regular gig in decades. Her first major TV role was in “As The World Turns”: She acted in the soap from 1982 to 1984. Ryan also appeared in “Wildside,” an ABC Western series that aired for one season in 1985, and voiced a character in TBS’ animated series “Captain Planet and the Planeteers” from 1990 to 1991. More recently, Ryan had a recurring role in Showtime’s “Web Therapy,” starring Lisa Kudrow.

Ryan made her directorial debut last year with “Ithaca,” a coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of WWII. The “Sleepless in Seattle” actress described the experience of making the film as a “confidence builder, even if the movie stinks. You just feel like, ‘Wow. I actually did that.’ You do feel like you have a place at the table [after directing] a movie.”
