The 5th Annual Katra Film Series Grand Finale is toasting a big group of women this year. The finale of the series will take place on January 25 at the Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn. The series focuses on international short films dedicated to “to the exhibition and promotion of quality independent cinema from around the world.” Katra curates a diverse program every month and hosts a grand finale event every year where films compete for in-kind prizes.
The great news is that, in this year’s competition, out of a total of 119 films officially selected to screen, 76 of them were made by a female writer, director, or producer. That amounts to over 63 percent women-made.
Finalists include films starring Caitlin Fitzgerald from Showtime’s “Masters of Sex” and Catherine Curtin from “Orange is The New Black.”
The 2016 Grand Prize Winner will be awarded a one-on-one meeting with an Academy Award-nominated producer, along with prizes from RED Digital Cinema Camera, Pond5, Moviemaker Magazine, Museum of the Moving Image, CreatorUp, and more.
