Kate McKinnon to Star in “The Lunch Witch” for Amblin Entertainment

Kate McKinnon in “Ghostbusters”: Sony

Since it doesn’t seem like “Saturday Night Live” star and Emmy winner Kate McKinnon will be trapped at Studio 8H playing Hillary Clinton for the foreseeable future, it was only a matter of time before her movie career kicked off.

As THR reports, McKinnon is set to star in “The Lunch Witch,” an adaptation of Deb Lucke’s 2015 children’s book, for Amblin Entertainment. She’ll star as Grunhilda, “a cold-hearted woman who inherits her famous ancestors’ recipes and cauldron in a world where no one believes in magic anymore. When she takes on a job as a school lunch lady, she delights in scaring students — until she meets a timid girl who needs help at school and home and becomes an unlikely friend.”

But the bummer part of the news is that another male director with little experience is taking the helm. Clay Kaytis, who co-directed “Angry Birds,” in which McKinnon had a voice role, will be making his live-action debut with this film.

In addition to starring on “SNL” and in this summer’s all-female “Ghostbusters” reboot, McKinnon will appear in “Office Christmas Party,” which opens December 9, and “Broad City” director Lucia Aniello’s “Rock That Body.”
