Sharon Horgan’s “Pulling” Heading to NBC

“Pulling”: BBC

Another British cult hit is heading stateside. As Deadline reports, NBC is developing a U.S. version of BBC series “Pulling.” Original creators Sharon Horgan, who starred in the original, and Dennis Kelly will executive produce. “Bob’s Burgers” team Wendy and Lizzie Molyneaux will pen the series.

Deadline’s synopsis for the female-centric comedy reads, “Donna breaks off her engagement to comfortable human-sweatsock Karl and moves in with her libertine sister Karen and sweet friend Louise. The show centers around the women’s adventures in the often-horrifying modern dating scene and their search for professional fulfillment.”

The original series ran in the UK for two seasons. This will mark the third attempt to bring “Pulling” to America. Horgan, Kelly, and Kapital Entertainment’s Aaron Kaplan have all been involved in each of the efforts: “Pulling” went to pilot twice at ABC, once in 2009 and a second time in 2013, both with different writers.

Horgan currently stars in “Catastrophe” on Amazon, which she co-created, and is also the creator of Sarah Jessica Parker’s HBO series “Divorce.”

She also has another series for the BBC in the works: they’ve ordered a full season of Horgan’s new comedy “Motherland,” a show all about “navigating the trials and traumas of motherhood, looking at the competitive and unromantic sides of parenting — not the cute and acceptable public face of motherhood.”

Hopefully the third time’s the charm for “Pulling.”
