Trailer Watch: “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House”

“I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House”

Consider yourself warned: The main character of “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House” won’t live to see her next birthday.

A trailer has been released for the Netflix original film starring “The Affair’s” Ruth Wilson. Wilson plays Lily, a young nurse hired to care for Iris (Paula Prentiss, “The Stepford Wives”), a famous horror novelist who is now elderly and in ailing health.

Lily’s job requires her to live with Iris in the writer’s secluded home — a house that’s filled with history. “I have heard myself say the house that holds the memory of a death is the staying place of a rotted ghost,” says Lily. From the looks of it, the rotted ghost doesn’t take too kindly to Lily, who warns viewers, “I am 28 years old. I will never be 29.”

Written and directed by Oz Perkins (“The Blackcoat’s Daughter”), “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House” made its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival back in September. The ghost story hits Netflix October 28, just in time for your Halloween horror marathon. Check out the trailer to get a sense of what kind of scary the film is — it’s not a fast-paced gore-fest. Expect goose bumps, an overwhelming sense of dread, and the urge to look over your shoulder.
