Back in March, filmmaker and activist Agunda Okeyo announced a new monthly production called “Sisters of Comedy,” which is presented at Caroline’s on Broadway. “Sisters of Comedy” just booked a high-profile gig: Okeyo’s production will take the stage at the upcoming New York Comedy Festival.

The prestigious fest launched in 2014. The five-day festival’s lineup includes more than 200 comedians, who will be performing in more than 60 shows at venues throughout NYC.

“Sisters of Comedy,” showcases “a who’s who of black women in stand-up plus a few special guests like Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Gloria Steinem and Image Activist/CNN commentator Michaela Angela Davis.” Steinem got even more involved, beginning a non-traditional segment of the series called “the revolutionary power of laughter” where public speakers, actors, and activists connect with comedy.

“Sisters of Comedy’s” NYCF show will be hosted by “Broad City’s” Michelle Buteau, Zainab Johnson (“Comic View”), Gina Yashere (“The Tonight Show”), and Sasheer Zamata (“Saturday Night Live”), with more celebrity guests to be announced.

Okeyo has also produced shows at Ginny’s Supper Club and Gotham Comedy Club. In February 2016, she produced a benefit show to support an Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in the U.S. Constitution.

“Sisters of Comedy” will hit the New York Comedy Festival at Caroline’s on Broadway on Wednesday, November 2 at 7:30pm. For tickets visit Caroline’s website.
