Oprah Winfrey Launches New Book Imprint

Celebrate the holidays with Oprah Winfrey-approved nonfiction: Winfrey’s Instagram

If you love Oprah’s Book Club, you’re in luck. Those who appreciate Oprah Winfrey-recommended books will be excited to learn that the mogul has a new book imprint under Flatiron Books, a division of Macmillan.

The AP reports that the imprint is called An Oprah Book, and its first two releases will be Winfrey’s “Food, Health and Happiness” cookbook, due January 3, and Maria Smilios’ “The Black Angels: The Untold Story of the Nurses Who Helped Cure Tuberculosis.” In a statement, Winfrey described the latter, scheduled for release in 2018, as a story that “needed to be shared.”

Flatiron and Winfrey announced the news of their collaboration back in 2015. Books released under An Oprah Book are personally selected by the talk show host, actress, and producer. As of now, the line will feature only nonfiction books.

Winfrey’s literary taste has shaped book sales for decades. Books given her stamp of approval often become bestsellers. Jacquelyn Mitchard’s “The Deep End of the Ocean,” Toni Morrison’s “Paradise,” Janet Fitch’s “White Oleander,” Ann-Marie MacDonald’s “Fall on Your Knees,” and Cheryl Strayed’s “Wild” are among the many titles Winfrey has recommended.

We’re betting that An Oprah Book will highlight the work of many women, and women of color in particular.

Winfrey is set to star in two upcoming film adaptations of books. She’s part of the stellar cast for Ava DuVernay’s “A Wrinkle in Time” and will appear alongside Rose Byrne in HBO’s “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.”
