Lifetime’s Broad Focus Partners with Chicken & Egg for Short Film Series

Lifetime’s Broad Focus initiative and Chicken & Egg Pictures have partnered up for a project that elevates women’s voices. The duo is producing “Shorts on Time,” a series of short films created and directed by women that will premiere at this year’s TEDWomen Conference.

Five women were selected to direct the films, three of which were recipients of the Chicken & Egg Pictures Breakthrough Filmmaker Award, which “recognizes veteran women filmmakers with an award of $50,000 and a yearlong career sustainability mentorship program.”

Each film focuses on one of the TEDWomen Conference’s central themes, which are all, in turn, focused on the concept of time. The films will run on Lifetime’s digital platforms after the premiere.

“This collaboration between Chicken & Egg Pictures, Lifetime, and TEDWomen has been a wonderful trifecta,” said Chicken & Egg Pictures co-founder Julie Parker Benello. “We are thrilled to be able to showcase five Chicken & Egg Pictures grantees who have brought such engaging stories to the screen, all touching on the ‘It’s About Time’ theme of this year’s TEDWomen conference.”

The films are:

TEDWomen Session: It’s About My Time

“How Much is Enough?” directed by Grace Lee (“American Revolutionary: The Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs”)

TEDWomen Session: It’s About Equal Time

“A Mother’s Dream” directed by Michèle Stephenson (“American Promise”)

TEDWomen Session: It’s About Story Time

“Lyari Girl Boxing” directed by Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (“A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness”)

TEDWomen Session: It’s About Time to Reimagine

“BeeLove” directed by Kristi Jacobson (“Solitary”)

TEDWomen Session: It’s About Time to Lead

“The Experience of Time” directed by Elaine McMillon Sheldon (“Hollow”)

During the TEDWomen Conference, Lifetime is also hosting a workshop called “An UnREAL Discussion on Modern Womanhood,” featuring cast members of the Peabody Award-winning series “UnREAL.” The workshop will address issues such as objectification, leadership, and equality in the entertainment industry.

The TEDWomen Conference kicks off today in San Francisco and runs through Friday.
