Teaser Watch: Carrie Heads to NYC in “Homeland” Season 6

“Homeland”: Showtime

Carrie Mathison is back. Showtime has released a teaser trailer for the new season of “Homeland,” and if the new footage is any indication, Carrie (Claire Danes) is as brave, defiant, and unpredictable as ever. She is also back on American soil, having left Berlin for Brooklyn.

“Homeland” Season 6 takes place several months after Carrie “thwarted a terrorist attack in Berlin,” its official synopsis describes. “She has begun working at a foundation [in New York] whose efforts are to provide aid to Muslims living in the U.S.”

The newest season of the Emmy Award-winning drama “will tackle the after effects of the U.S. presidential election, with the entire season taking place between election day and the inauguration. It’s a strange, transitional time in the halls of government filled with anxiety and different competing interests, where a very fragile and complex transfer of power takes place between the outgoing president and the incoming president-elect [played by Elizabeth Marvel of ‘House of Cards’].”

Most of the teaser is more concerned with establishing atmosphere than detailing plot — snippets of tense footage, sans dialogue, play over a haunting cover of Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight.”

About halfway through the spot, the teaser becomes a little more revealing. “I don’t think you understand how vulnerable you are,” Carrie is told. She’s also ordered to “stand down,” and if you’ve seen even one episode of “Homeland,” you probably have an idea of how Carrie reacts to being told what to do.

“Homeland” Season 6 kicks off January 15, 2017. Joining Danes are returning series regulars Mandy Patinkin, Rupert Friend, and F. Murray Abraham.

We know the directors for the first six episodes of the season, and two of the eps will be directed by a woman: Lesli Linka Glatter. Glatter has received three Emmy noms for her directing on the politically-charged drama. She also scored an Emmy nod for an episode of “Mad Men” she helmed.
