Get ready to add even more to your To Watch list: new comedy pilots from tag-team Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael, as well as Iliza Shlesinger are being developed.
According to Deadline, frequent collaborators and longtime friends Wilson and Raphael are working on “Unhinged,” a half-hour, single-camera comedy for Hulu. Variety reports that stand-up comedian Shlesinger has sold an untitled pilot to ABC.
“Unhinged” tells the story of April Hansen, a woman struggling with rage. According to the plot summary, April is “tired of leaning in and playing nice and being told she can have it all. She knows it’s not attractive for a woman to be angry. And she’s angry about that.” “Unhinged” will be written and executive produced by Wilson (“One Mississippi”) and Raphael (“Grace and Frankie,” “Lady Dynamite”). The “project is being developed as a potential vehicle for Wilson who would star as April,” Deadline writes. John Riggi (“30 Rock”) will serve as showrunner and also exec produce.
As Deadline notes, Wilson and Raphael met at NYU and have worked together ever since. They wrote and starred in “Ass Backwards” and co-wrote “Bride Wars.” The pair have also performed together in Upright Citizens Brigade shows.
On the acting side, Wilson’s credits include Hulu’s “Hotwives” franchise, a spoof of the many “Real Housewives” series, and ABC’s cult classic “Happy Endings.” Known for her comedy chops, Wilson has also had serious turns in “Gone Girl” and “C.O.G.”
Raphael has most recently appeared in “Another Period” and “The Amazing Gayl Pile.” She is set to star in the upcoming “Girlfriend’s Day.”
Shlesinger’s project is created and written by the comic. The series is about a New York mother who relocates herself and her two children to Dallas after her husband abruptly divorces her. She has to readjust to being single — and being a single parent — while finding her way in a new town. Shlesinger is also serving as a producer on the ABC project.
This pilot is just the latest news from Shlesinger, whose schedule is currently jam-packed. It “expands Shlesinger’s relationship with ABC,” Variety writes. Her digital series, “Forever 31,” is beginning its second season on ABC’s digital platform, ABCd. Shlesinger’s latest stand-up special, “Confirmed Kills,” premiered on Netflix earlier this year. The comedian is going on tour soon and has a book, “Girl Logic,” coming out in 2017.
As we’ve previously reported, Shlesinger is also developing a late-night series with ABC’s sister network, Freeform. She is set to host and executive produce.
