Elle Fanning takes on the voice of the lead role of Félicie Milliner in the English-language version of the French animated film “Ballerina,” which has just premiered a lovely new trailer.
Set in 1879 Paris, “Ballerina” tells the story of a red-headed orphan who dreams of becoming a dancer. She “flees her rural Brittany for Paris, where she passes for someone else and accedes to the position of pupil at the Grand Opera house.” We’re not sure why, in the 19th century, she seems to be wearing wearing jean shorts, but hey, it’s a kids’ movie. We’re willing to go with it.
Other voice talents in the film include Carly Rae Jepsen, Dane DeHaan, and Maddie Ziegler.
“So many little girls dream at some point of becoming a ballerina. This film beautifully pairs that dream of dance with the artistry of animation,” said Harvey Weinstein when the Weinstein Co. acquired the U.S. rights back in May.
There’s no U.S. release date yet, but this UK trailer shows what could turn out to be an inspiring family film, motivating any number of kids to go into dance.
