“Pretty Little Liars” creator I. Marlene King has landed a huge deal, Variety reports. King has signed an overall contract with Warner Bros. Television and Warner Horizon Television. The multi-year deal will have King developing new projects for both network and cable television through her production company Long Lake Media.
“PLL” will wrap up after seven seasons on Freeform (previously ABC Family) in the spring of 2017, after which King has a new series beginning called “Famous in Love,” starring Bella Thorne. The show centers on a college student (Thorne) who becomes an overnight celebrity.
King also has a third series, “The Perfectionists,” in the works at Freeform. It’s based on books by Sara Shepard, the author behind “Pretty Little Liars.” It’s wonderful that King is maintaining her relationship with another female writer. King is also supporting women within her own company, as she has named Lauren Wagner the new executive vice president of Long Lake Media. Wagner was previously with Outerbanks Entertainment, another WBTV brand.
“Pretty Little Liars” is Freeform’s top series. We have no doubt that King’s upcoming projects will be equally as successful, keeping women and female-centric stories in the mix at Warner Bros. TV.
