Trailer Watch: “Newtown” Doc Examines the Aftermath of Sandy Hook Tragedy

“Newtown”

“I don’t think that any of us that were in there feel like anyone needs to know specifically what we saw,” says an interviewee in a newly released trailer for Kim A. Snyder’s “Newtown.” “Emotionally, the world needs to know to understand it.” The man is referring to the events that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012. The mass shooting resulted in 26 deaths, and 20 of the victims were children.

The chilling spot for the documentary begins with a 911 call, and includes conversations with parents who lost their children in the tragedy. The trailer also touches on the topic of gun control.

“Newtown” was filmed over the course of three years, and “documents a traumatized community fractured by grief and driven toward a sense of purpose,” an official synopsis reads. “Joining the ranks of a growing club to which no one wants to belong, a cast of characters interconnect to weave an intimate story of community resilience.”

The feature made its World Premiere at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and will hit theaters in NY October 7 and LA October 14. On November 2, the doc will screen in over 300 theaters nationwide.
