Pam Fryman to Direct Pilot of “Murphy Brown” Revival

Fryman: ICM Partners

Pam Fryman has booked her fifth pilot this season, and it’s a big one: She’ll be re-introducing viewers to “Murphy Brown.” Deadline reports that she’s signed on to direct the first episode of CBS’ revival of the sitcom. Candice Bergen is reprising her titular role as a television journalist, and cast members Faith Ford, Joe Regalbuto, and Grant Shaud are also returning, as is the show’s creator, Diane English.

Originally airing on CBS from 1988–98, “Murphy Brown” won 18 Emmys during its 10-season run. Bergen won five for her lead performance and English received one for her writing. The series also took home the best comedy series prize twice.

“One Day at a Time,” “Man with a Plan,” and “9JKL” are among Fryman’s recent credits. She directed a whopping 196 episodes of “How I Met Your Mother.” The four other pilots she’s working on this season are CBS’ “History of Them,” a story that centers on two friends falling in love; NBC’s bar comedy “Abby’s” and “Friends-in-Law,” a comedy about polar opposites who are forced to find common ground when their respective best friends get hitched; and ABC’s “Most Likely To,” a comedy from Diablo Cody about former high school classmates who become roommates as single moms.
