Lauren Palmigiano to Direct Elizabeth Banks-Produced “White Girl Problems”

“Funny or Die” writer Lauren Palmigiano has signed on to make her feature directorial debut with Lionsgate’s “White Girl Problems,” Variety reports. The project is produced by Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman (both produced “Pitch Perfect 2,” which Banks also helmed).

The script, penned by Alisha Brophy and Scott Miles, is an adaptation of Babe Walker’s 2012 bestselling book about a woman with a huge following on social media who ends up in rehab following a shopping spree at Barneys with a price tag of $246,893.50. Variety summarizes that she “then decides to write her memoir about the hurdles she’s had to overcome such as hating her horse and her job.”

Palmigiano previously served the head writer and executive producer at “Funny or Die.” Variety notes, “She recently directed the Soul Pancake-produced pilot ‘Hollywood & Vine’ for ABC Family and ‘Homeroom’ for Nickelodeon.” Palmigiano performed triple duty — writing, directing, and producing — on “Cried Suicide,” a short film starring Sarah Burns (“How to Get Away with Murder”) that debuted at Tribeca Film Festival.
