Tori Amos Records Song for Netflix Doc “Audrie & Daisy”

Musician Tori Amos has written and recorded the song “Flicker” for Netflix’s upcoming documentary “Audrie & Daisy.”

The documentary chronicles the lives of two underage teen girls in the aftermath of being sexually assaulted and having the awful crimes committed against them caught on camera. Rather than eliciting anger and disgust on their behalf, evidence of their horrific treatment leads to the girls being bullied mercilessly, particularly online.

Through the song, Amos asks listeners to “shed a little light on this, and on those who excuse this act of violence.”

“After viewing the film, I spoke with [directors] Bonni [Cohen] and Jon [Shenk] about the devastating complexities of the stories they capture in ‘Audrie & Daisy,’” Amos said. “The song was informed by these conversations. I wrote ‘Flicker’ to hold a sonic space for the heroines of this powerful and timely documentary.”

Amos is an eight-time Grammy award-nominated singer and songwriter who has released 14 albums since bursting onto the scene in 1992 with “Little Earthquakes.” She has been a spokesperson for anti-sexual violence organization RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), for over 20 years and will donate a portion of the proceeds of “Flicker” to RAINN.

“Flicker” will be released on September 9. “Audrie & Daisy” will hit theaters and be available to stream on Netflix September 23.
