Trailer Watch: Netflix’s “Project MC2” Highlights Young Women of STEM

“Project MC2”: Netflix

If you have Netflix and kids, you may want to check out the series “Project MC2.” Season 1 is already up, and Season 2, for which a new trailer has just been released, premieres quite soon. The story revolves around four science-savvy young women who, through their love and knowledge of STEM, band together to solve mysteries.

As Deadline detailed back when the show was renewed in April, the Daytime Emmy-nominated series follows “McKeyla, Adrienne, Bryden, and Camry as they are recruited to join the spy organization, NOV8 (‘Innovate’), and work together to save the day. The renewal news comes the same day Netflix, in conjunction with White House Council on Women & Girls and the U.S. Dept. of Education, announced that is partnering with a U.S. youth organization on a program that will encourage young girls to unlock their potential in the areas of science, math, art, engineering and technology.”

The second season of “Project MC2” will hit Netflix on Friday, August 12. The first season had only three episodes, but Netflix told Women and Hollywood that Season 2 will feature six episodes. According to the streaming site’s official synopsis, Season 2 catches up with the group, “After saving the world from Black Star, NOV8 (that’s ‘Innovate’) has given teenaged secret agent, McKeyla McAlister, her most difficult assignment yet: blending in as an average high school student. It won’t be easy for McKeyla to turn off spy-mode, especially since criminal mastermind, Carson Lazarus, has moved to town. McKeyla’s friends Adrienne, Bryden, and Camryn are eager to assist, but their task is compromised when all social media and technology devices are hacked by super-hacker Retro. As Retro brings mayhem to Maywood Glen, the girls must solve riddles and connect clues to decipher who Retro is, and why he is attacking Maywood Glen, before the city is wiped out.”

The series also has a line of spy/science kits, along with a line of dolls that each come with their own experiments. There’s also a website where girls can register for learning activities like quizzes, games, and experiments. In the world of women’s representation, especially for young women, “Project MC2” seems like an inspiring and positive series for girls (and boys!) to get into.
