Reese Witherspoon is in talks to star in a new woman-directed feature. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar winner may take the lead in “Home Again,” Hallie Meyers-Shyer’s directorial debut. The film is produced by writer-director Nancy Meyers, Meyers-Shyer’s mother.

The story, penned by Meyers-Shyer, follows a single mom who finds herself in unexpected living conditions after relocating to LA. She ends up living with three younger men, and it’s not long before the household transforms into home, with the unlikely roommates forming an unconventional family.

Witherspoon was initially slated to star in Meyer’s “The Intern” before scheduling conflicts led her to exit the project. Her role was ultimately filled by Anne Hathaway, and the comedy grossed nearly $195 million on a budget of $35 million.

“Home Again” is scheduled to begin shooting September in LA.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that “Erika Olde’s Black Bicycle Entertainment is financing and producing the film,” and “CAA, which reps Witherspoon, Meyers and Olde, is selling North American rights to the movie, which will be introduced to buyers at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.” International sales are being handled by MadRiver Pictures.

You can catch Witherspoon in HBO’s limited series “Big Little Lies” next year. She stars alongside Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley in the small-screen adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s best-selling 2014 novel of the same name. The dark comedy centers on the lives of three dissimilar mothers. The trio are involved in a murder that takes place during trivia night at a suburban elementary school. The series is helmed by Witherspoon’s “Wild” director Jean-Marc Vallee.
