Indie filmmaker Emily Carmichael will direct “Lumberjanes” for 20th Century Fox, TheWrap has reported.

According to the site, “Lumberjanes” is considered “a female version of ‘The Goonies,’” and “tells the story of five young girls at summer camp who must unite to fight a supernatural threat to the camp and the surrounding forest.”

This announcement comes not long after it was revealed that Carmichael will write and direct “Powerhouse,” a film based on an original story by “Jurassic World” director Colin Trevorrow. Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment will produce. “Powerhouse” is described as a “family action package.”

Carmichael’s writing work was featured in “Ophelia Speaks,” a best-selling anthology of feminist essays by teen girls. She also created the comic strip “Whiz Kids.” Her short film “The Hunter and the Swan Discuss Their Meetingwon the Grand Jury Prize at the 2012 Science Fiction Fantasy Short Film Festival. She also made the animated web series “The Adventures of Ledo and Ix” and “RPG OKC,” the latter of which won the Jury Award of Best Short at the 2013 Philadelphia Film Festival. Her name has even surfaced as a possible contender to direct Marvel’s “Captain Marvel,” which will star Brie Larson.

The news comes not long after Women and Hollywood pointed out that 20th Century Fox didn’t have a single female director on their 2016 or 2017 roster. Thankfully that’s changing, with “Kung Fu Panda 3” co-director Jennifer Yuh Nelson tapped to direct “Darkest Minds” for the studio, and now Carmichael, though it’s not clear when these films will debut.
