Apply Now for the Cassian Elwes Independent Screenwriting Fellowship Through The Black List

If you’re an aspiring screenwriter and member of The Black List, here’s some good news: For the fourth year of the Cassian Elwes Independent Screenwriting Fellowship, two screenwriters instead of the usual one will be sponsored for a trip to the Sundance Film Festival.

Elwes couldn’t decide between two writers, Kristina Zacharias and Terrell Garrett, for Sundance 2016, so he ended up bringing both.

“That experience was so wonderful for all of us that it makes total sense to formalize this and now bring two writers every year,” Elwes said according to Deadline. “I can’t wait to read the finalists’ scripts and find this year’s fellows. I’m so grateful to the Black List for this opportunity.”

The Cassian Elwes Independent Screenwriting Fellowship describes itself as “an annual program designed to encourage and identify new talent in the field of independent cinema by awarding one screenwriter each year with an all-expenses paid trip to the Sundance Film Festival and an opportunity to meet with Producer Cassian Elwes (“Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints”). Each year, The Black List will choose ten screenplays imbued with an independent spirit by unrepresented screenwriters, which will be sent on to Mr. Elwes for his consideration. The short list will be determined in early December and the Fellowship recipient will be selected by Mr. Elwes by calendar year’s end.”

If you’re not a member of The Black List, it’s not hard to become one. Check out the entry requirements here, and be sure to enter your scripts for this fellowship by November 5.
