A Record Number of Women Directors in Consideration for British Doc Awards

Credit: The Grierson Trust

With 52 women on the Grierson shortlist, a record number of women are now in consideration for this year’s British Documentary Awards.

As the BBC reports, Lorraine Heggessey, the trust’s chair, said she was “delighted” at the increase in women, “following under-representation in previous years.” Last year’s number at this stage was 36.

Nominees include Pamela Gordon, director of “Dementiaville,” for the best documentary category. Nicola Brown has been shortlisted for her work on “Secret Life of 4, 5, and 6 Year Olds.” Charlotte Scott’s documentary “Attenborough and the Giant Dinosaur” is up for nomination in the natural history category. Davina McCall of “Long Lost Family” is up for Best Presenter.

Awards organizers said this year had the “widest spread of broadcasters and channels ever represented.”

The final nominations will be announced on September 20 with the awards ceremony held on November 7. For the complete list of shortlisted nominations, head here.
