The Weinstein Company’s adaptation of Deborah Moggach’s best-selling novel has been scheduled and rescheduled and rescheduled again, but it looks like we’ll finally see “Tulip Fever’s” passionate and dangerous love affair come alive in a matter of weeks — and its latest red band trailer promises a thrilling and alluring drama worth waiting for.
The newest trailer warns that “seduction is a dangerous art.” Set in 17th century Amsterdam, “Tulip Fever” explores the forbidden affair between Sophia (Alicia Vikander), a married woman, and the man who has been hired to paint her portrait (Dane DeHaan, “Kill Your Darlings”). In an effort to escape Sophia’s husband, a coercing maid, and — to some extent — God himself, the two lovers decide to risk everything in the tulip market.
Christoph Waltz (“Django Unchained”) portrays Sophia’s controlling husband. Cara Delevingne (“Suicide Squad”), Holliday Grainger (“Cinderella”), and Judi Dench (“Skyfall”) also co-star.
As we previously reported, Academy Award-winning Vikander has joined the list of actresses who have begun their own production companies. Vikarious’ first feature film, “Euphoria,” is directed by Lisa Lansgeth and will make its debut at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
Vikander also stars in the reboot of “Tomb Raider,” which will hit theaters March 16, 2018.
“Tulip Fever” will hit theaters September 1.
