Claire Carré’s directorial debut “Embers,” which closed this year’s Slamdance Film Festival, will be the first narrative feature released by the new Slamdance Presents label, Variety has reported.

The sci-fi film stars Jason Ritter (“Girls,” “Another Period”) and Iva Gocheva (“Sneakers”) and revolves around “the collective loss of memory after a global neurological epidemic.” It will begin its limited theatrical run on August 5 at the ArcLight in Los Angeles. The film will be released on VOD by The Orchard during the same week.

“Slamdance is known for supporting and launching new filmmakers, and they live up to their reputation,” Carré said. “I’m thrilled for my first feature to be chosen as the first narrative released theatrically by Slamdance Presents. I feel so fortunate to have Slamdance in my corner, pushing to make it possible for my film to be seen on the big screen.”

Slamdance launched their distribution label back in September with the pro wrestling doc “The Resurrection of Jake the Snake.”
