Kerry Washington, star of ABC’s “Scandal” and HBO’s “Confirmation,” has been selected as the recipient of the Actors Inspiration Award by the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.
Washington, Variety reports, will be recognized for “giving back to fellow actors and the community at large.”
“We are overjoyed to present Kerry Washington with our Actors Inspiration Award,” said foundation president JoBeth Williams. “Kerry’s continuous support for our programs and her fellow actors, and her dedication to countless social and political causes exemplify the essence of this award.”
The foundation will present Washington with the award on June 13. As Variety notes, “Washington was appointed by President Barack Obama to the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities in 2009. In 2013 Washington was honored with the NAACP President’s Award, which recognized her special achievements in furthering the cause of civil rights and public service.”
Last year’s honor went to Sofia Vergara and Leonardo DiCaprio for their philanthropic work.
