The good news: “Orphan Black” is returning for a fifth season. The bad news: Season 5 will mark the end of the series. The fifth and final season, composed of 10 episodes, is set to air in 2017. Deadline reports that “BBC America and Canadian network partner Space made the joint pickup.”
The Season 4 finale of “Orphan Black” airs tonight.
The critically acclaimed cult sci-fi series stars Tatiana Maslany (“Woman in Gold”), who has won two Critics’ Choice TV Awards and received an Emmy nom for her performance(s). Maslany plays a number of characters on the series, which centers on a clone conspiracy.
“‘Orphan Black’ is a thrilling, genre-bending ride that has captured our fans’ imaginations and hearts like no other show,” said BBC America president Sarah Barnett.
The series’ creators, John Fawcett and Graeme Manson, added, “We are excited to deliver an epic conclusion to the tale of Sarah and her clone sisters. The past four seasons have been a phenomenal adventure and we are eternally grateful to our loyal fans who have loved the twists and thrills of our weird little show. We are thankful to our partners at Temple Street, and to BBC America and Space for their support and giving us the opportunity to end on a high.”
So the end is nigh, Clone Club, but fortunately it sounds like there’s still a lot to look forward to.
