Trailer Watch: McCarthy, Wiig, and Co. Go to War in “Ghostbusters”

“Ghostbusters”: Sony

A second trailer has dropped for Paul Feig’s eagerly-awaited reboot of “Ghostbusters,” starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon.

As paranormal researcher Abby (McCarthy) describes in the spot, “We have a gift. We see what no one else is willing to see. We do things others can’t do.” And, of course, “if there’s a paranormal problem” — they’re the ones you’re gonna call.

Something big is happening in NYC — so big it may constitute as apocalyptic. Someone is creating a device to amplify paranormal activity, and the city looks like a large-scale version of Disney’s Haunted Mansion ride. The ragtag group of parapsychologists are uniquely able to save the day, but as secretary and aspiring Ghostbuster Kevin (Chris Hemsworth, “Thor”) says, they’re “gonna need a bigger boat.”

Check out the trailer below to see the superheroines in action. There’s an especially great bit of dialogue that addresses racism and sexism. Speaking of gross prejudice, read our take on the misogynistic backlash to the film. The first “Ghostbusters” trailer is the most disliked trailer in YouTube history, with over 500,000 dislikes, and this new trailer is being met with similar hostility.

“Ghostbusters” hits theaters July 15, and we’re betting that it’ll light up the box office.
