One of our most anticipated movies of 2013, Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring, was just acquired by A24. Coppola’s film is based on the real life story of a group of rich teenagers who robbed celebrity homes for over a year before getting caught. Adapted from Nancy Jo Sales’ article in Vanity Fair, “The Suspects Wore Louboutins,” the group robbed homes from October 2008 to August 2009 racking up over $3 million dollars in stolen goods.
Here is A24's statement about working with Coppola:
Sofia Coppola is an iconic American filmmaker and she has focused her distinctive style and uncanny ability to capture the zeitgeist in THE BLING RING. We are thrilled to be working with her and look forward to bringing her undeniably fun and incredibly stylistic film to audiences nationwide.
The film, directed, written and produced by Coppola, stars Emma Watson, Taissa Farmiga (who was great in season one of American Horror Story) and newbies Israel Broussard, Katie Chang and Claire Julien. It also stars Leslie Mann and even Paris Hilton, who I assume plays herself, as she was a Bling Ring target.
The Bling Ring will hit theaters in June, and we await Coppola’s commentary on our celebrity culture. We also look forward to seeing Emma Watson in her first major starring role, Here are some clips from Alexis Neiers’ (real Bling Ring member) former reality TV show to prep for the release.
