Variety announced 10 directors and screenwriters to watch for the upcoming year. Out of the 20, 4 women were included, 2 for each. The directors will be profiled in the January 3rd issue of Variety.
Here are the women to watch for each category.
Directors:
Haifaa Al-Mansour – Director and writer of Wadjda (Al-Mansour is Saudi Arabia’s first female filmmaker).
Rebecca Thomas – Director and writer of Electrick Children.
Screenwriters:
Katie Dippold – Writer of The Heat (starring Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock), previously written for Parks and Recreation and MADtv.
Kelly Marcel – Writer of upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation and Saving Mr. Banks (starring Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson), previously written for Terra Nova.
