Trailer Watch: It’s Jessica Chastain Against the World in “Molly’s Game”

“Molly’s Game”

“If you think a princess can do what I did, you’re incorrect,” asserts Molly Bloom (Jessica Chastain) in the trailer for “Molly’s Game.” If there is one thing that’s clear about everyone in Molly Bloom’s life, it’s that they underestimate her. Those she surrounds herself with continuously remind her of her “lack of bargaining power” and “unimportance.” What they fail to account for, though, is that the humiliation will inspire Molly to change the game by creating her own.

“Molly’s Game” follows the real-life story of Molly Bloom, an Olympic-class skier who managed “to build a multi-million dollar poker business using not much more than her wits.” Molly’s weekly poker attendees include movie stars, directors, business titans, and the Russian mob. And the buy-in price is anything but cheap.

When she is finally caught by the FBI, Molly shares her story — changing all names but her own — and finds her only ally in criminal defense attorney Charlie Jaffey (Idris Elba). But even he makes the mistake of doubting her. Molly queries, “You don’t think much of me, but what if every single one of your ill-informed, unsophisticated opinions about me were wrong?”

His answer? “I’d be amazed.”

Kevin Costner, Michael Cera, and Chris O’Dowd round out the ensemble cast of “Molly’s Game.” Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin (“The West Wing,” “Steve Jobs”), the film hits theaters November 22.
