Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez is about to add yet another award to her rapidly expanding collection: The “Jane the Virgin” star has been named as the 2016 recipient of the CinemaCon Female Star of Tomorrow Award. Rodriguez will be honored at the CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards ceremony on April 14 in Las Vegas.
“Already a Golden Globe winner for her portrayal of Jane on ‘Jane The Virgin,’ Rodriguez is set to become one of most sought after actresses in Hollywood as she continues to earn rave reviews for her performances on both the small and big screen,” noted Mitch Neuhauser, managing director of CinemaCon. “A formidable talent and an actress who is truly on the rise, we could not be more thrilled to be able to honor her as this year’s CinemaCon Female Star of Tomorrow.”
Britt Robertson (“Tomorrowland”) was the 2015 recipient.
Rodriguez’s upcoming projects include roles in the big budget oil spill drama “Deepwater Horizon” and sci-fi “Annihilation” costarring Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Tessa Thompson (“Dear White People,” “Creed”). The incredibly busy actress has also managed to carve out time to launch a social-media movement to spotlight Latino cultures in the media.
