Marti Noxon has one helluva TV career, and now the writer-producer-director is poised to make her mark on the big screen. The “UnReal” co-creator has signed on to make her feature directorial debut with “To the Bone,” a dark comedy based on her own experiences with eating disorders. She’ll also pen the script.
Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn of Mockingbird Pictures will produce. Karina Miller will also produce, and finance through her newly launched company, Sparkhouse Media. “To the Bone” will mark Sparkhouse’s first project. Principal photography for the film kicks off at the end of March.
“’What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’ not only applies to the deeply personal subject matter of ‘To the Bone,’ but to simply getting a film about people with eating disorders made,” said Noxon. “Without the brilliant Julie Lynn, Bonnie Curtis and Karina Miller producing, there’s no way this project would be coming to fruition. I’m thrilled to be making my feature directing debut with this troika of fierce women in my corner.”
Noxon’s TV producing and writing highlights include “Glee,” “Mad Men” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” She has directed on the small screen, namely episodes of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” — Noxon also wrote and produced on both of those series. The in-demand TV vet has been tapped to serve as the showrunner of a small screen adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s “Sharp Objects” top-lined by Amy Adams.
And she’s no stranger to film: Noxon wrote “Fright Night” and “I Am Number Four,” both released in 2011. She also co-wrote the upcoming big screen adaptation of Jeannette Walls’ bestselling, award-winning memoir “The Glass Castle,” starring Oscar winner Brie Larson.
