You have a lot more “Supergirl” to look forward to. CBS has ordered an additional seven episodes of the series, bringing Season One from 13 episodes to 20.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that, while 20 is “slightly less than the normal 22,” “Supergirl” premiered later than most other new fall shows and the series is special effects-heavy, which means more prep time is necessary before episodes can air.
“Supergirl” premiered with an impressive 12.9 million viewers. The DC Comics adaptation is tied (with NBC’s “Blindspot”) for the biggest premiere of the fall season. Starring Melissa Benoist in the title role, the series has continued to bring in strong numbers since.
Check out Women and Hollywood’s review of the pilot, where we praised “Supergirl” for “baring feminist conflicts, not abs.”
The series focuses on Kara Danvers, or Kara Zor-El, cousin to Superman. She’s originally sent to Earth to protect Superman, but it turns out he doesn’t need saving. The rest of us earthlings do, though. Kara is an assistant at media conglomerate CatCo, but she’s finally embracing another calling, her true destiny: transforming into a full-fledged caped crusader to become Supergirl.
