“Tomb Raider” reboot scribe Geneva Robertson-Dworet will be writing the story of Carol Danvers. Marvel has hired her to take over “Captain Marvel” screenwriting duties from Meg LeFauve (“Inside Out”) and Nicole Perlman (“Guardians of the Galaxy”). Deadline broke the story.

LeFauve left the film in order to direct Disney’s “Jack and the Beanstalk” retelling, “Gigantic,” with Nathan Greno. The reason for Perlman’s exit is unclear.

Starring Oscar winner Brie Larson, “Captain Marvel” is about Air Force pilot Carol Danvers. Carol gains the powers of super-strength, energy projection, and flight in an accident that fuses her DNA to an alien’s. “Half Nelson” writers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have signed on to direct the film, which is is expected to hit theaters March 8, 2019.

Robertson-Dworet is an up and coming screenwriter. Her first project, the new “Tomb Raider” film starring Alicia Vikander, will open March 16, 2018. The pic sees Lara Croft (Vikander) struggling to survive on the island where her adventurer father went missing.

The two-time Black List writer is tapped to pen “Gotham City Sirens,” the “Suicide Squad” spinoff about Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and other female DC supervillains. Deadline adds that Robertson-Dworet’s second Black List script, “Ares,” was acquired by MGM. “Underworld: Blood Wars” and “Outlander” director Anna Foerster is expected to helm the project.
