Trailer Watch: Whitney Cummings Investigates Romantic Impulses in “The Female Brain”

“The Female Brain”

“After years of research we discovered the male and female brain is wired very differently,” says Whitney Cummings in a new trailer for “The Female Brain.” The comedian’s directorial debut sees her playing Julia, a neuroscientist who researches the biochemistry of the female brain.

While neuroscience may sound like intimidating subject matter, bear in mind that Julia’s findings are illustrated by three couples in the comedy: “newlyweds Zoe (Cecily Strong) and Greg (Blake Griffin), whose career troubles seep into their relationship; Lisa (Sofia Vergara) and Steven (Deon Cole), who are looking to spice up their stuck-in-a-rut marriage; and Lexi (Lucy Punch), who can’t help trying to change her boyfriend Adam (James Marsden),” “The Female Brain’s” synopsis explains.

It’s worth noting that Julia isn’t just making observations from the sidelines — a new subject in her study (Toby Kebbell) has her analyzing her own responses to sex and romance.

Cummings created and starred in “Whitney,” a comedy that ran for two seasons on NBC. She co-created CBS’ “2 Broke Girls,” which concluded its sixth and final season last year.

“The Female Brain” hits theaters and VOD February 9. Check out the trailer to hear Julia’s findings about topics including grooming and finding flaws.
