The stars of last year’s “Wild,” Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern, are collaborating with the author of the film’s source material, Cheryl Strayed, on a HBO series.
Witherspoon, Dern, Strayed and the memoirist’s husband, Brian Lindstrom, are developing and executive producing a drama based on “Tiny Beautiful Things,” Strayed’s 2012 collection of advice columns. (Remember that one of the network’s biggest hits, the zeitgeist-dominating “Sex and the City,” also originated with a columnist writing from a distinct female POV.)
Strayed and Lindstrom will pen the series, which Deadline describes as exploring “love, loss, lust and life through the eyes of a Portland family who live by the mantra that the truth will never kill you.”
Dern and Witherspoon received Oscar nominations for their roles as a mother and daughter in “Wild.”
Both actresses also have previous ties to HBO. Dern starred in two seasons of the critically acclaimed “Enlightened,” while Witherspoon (along with Nicole Kidman) will play one of three overworked moms confronted with a murder mystery in a miniseries based on Liane Moriarty’s best-selling “Big Little Lies.”
