Wendy Davis, the Democratic Texas state senator who became a viral sensation after filibustering an anti-abortion bill for 11 hours, will serve as the inspiration for a new NBC dramedy.

Written by Jennifer Cecil, the peacock network is developing an as-yet-untitled series about “a female Democratic senator who, after losing the Texas governor’s race, gets her world turned upside down,” according to Deadline. “In the vein of ‘The Good Wife,’ while she pieces her pride back together, she goes to work in the law firm of her best friend — a black male Republican — and discovers that with no political future to protect, she can unshackle her inner badass.”

The project is housed at Universal TV. A quartet of women are attached as EPs, including Cecil, Davis, Sue Naegle and Karen Sherwood.

Davis represented the Fort Worth area in the Texas state legislature from 2009 to 2015 and ran unsuccessfully against Rick Perry for the Texas governorship last year. She earned a Harvard law degree after becoming a single mother at age 19. She is currently working on a new gender equality initiative aimed at millennials.
