Adult Nancy Drew May Solve Mysteries on CBS

Beloved sleuth Nancy Drew may be returning to the small screen after a considerable hiatus. According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS is developing a “contemporary take” on the bestselling book series. A new TV show will follow Nancy, now in her thirties, as she solves crimes as a NYPD detective while “navigating the complexities of life in a modern world.” (We assume that means Nancy will use her remarkable observational skills to screen potential Tinder dates.)

Nancy Drew made her debut in print in 1930, and while the character was created by Edward Stratemeyer, the first “Nancy Drew” book was written by newspaper woman Mildred Wirt Benson, who penned a number of other novels in the series. Harriet Stratemeyer Adams, Stratemeyer’s daughter, later took the reins as the main author of the series.

The in-development series at CBS isn’t the character’s first foray into television. The most famous incarnation of the girl sleuth is “The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries,” which aired for three seasons on ABC in the late ’70s. And while Emma Roberts is currently playing a monstrous mean girl in “Scream Queens,” it was less than a decade ago that she got her big break playing a teen version of the tenacious detective in the 2007 film “Nancy Drew.”
