Rachel Weisz has recently led a Holocaust drama, a gothic mystery, and a forbidden romance, and the Oscar winner is taking on yet another genre in her latest role. She’s signed on to star in sci-fi “Cloud One,” Variety reports. Plot details are unknown, but the indie film is based on a short story by Etgar Keret and it’s being written and directed by Goran Dukic (“Wristcutters: A Love Story”).
Described as a “grounded sci-fi movie,” the pic is expected to kick off filming this spring.
“Imitation Game” producers Nora Grossman and Ido Ostrowsky will produce via their Bristol Automotive banner.
Weisz won an Oscar in 2006 for “The Constant Gardener.” She portrayed historian Deborah Lipstadt in 2016’s “Denial.” The drama, which is based on a true story, depicts her legal battle with author David Irving, who accused her of libel after she identified some of his works and statements as Holocaust denial. She also appeared in last year’s “My Cousin Rachel,” which follows a man’s revenge plot against his cousin’s mysterious widow. The British actress and co-star Rachel McAdams received strong notices for “Disobedience,” a seemingly doomed romance set in an Orthodox Jewish community. The pic premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival and hits theaters April 27.
