Angela Bassett and Patricia Arquette may be joining forces for Cindy Chupack’s feature directorial debut. The duo are in talks to topline “Otherhood,” a Netflix feature comedy about three mothers and close friends who decide to go to New York and try to patch things up with their estranged sons. Deadline broke the news.

Bassett and Arquette would play two of the three main characters. The third character has yet to be cast.

Chupack has been attached to the project since 2014 when Allison Janney and Susan Sarandon were originally set to star. She and Mark Andrus (“As Good as It Gets”) adapted the script from William Sutcliffe’s book “Whatever Makes You Happy.”

Bassett and Arquette are exec producing. Cathy Schulman of Welle Entertainment and Women in Film is among “Otherhood’s” producers. Production will kick off in New York in June.

Bassett stars in Fox emergency drama “9-1-1” and most recently appeared in box office smash “Black Panther.” She received an Emmy nomination in 2017 for playing Lena Waithe’s mother in “Master of None’s” “Thanksgiving.” The award-winning ep sees Waithe’s character Denise come out to her family slowly over the course of two decades. Bassett earned an Oscar nod for her portrayal of Tina Turner in “What’s Love Got to Do with It.”

Arquette took home an Oscar in 2015 for her supporting turn in “Boyhood.” She starred in last year’s “Permanent” and her upcoming projects include Kirsten Dunst’s adaptation of “The Bell Jar” and “Toy Story 4.” Arquette will make her feature directorial debut with “Love Canal,” a narrative account of the 1970s environmental disaster at Love Canal, New York and the housewives who held the government and chemical companies accountable.

Chupack is best known for writing and producing series such as “Sex and the City,” “Modern Family,” and “Divorce.” She previously helmed web series “Puppy Love” and short “Whose Dog Is It Anyway?”
