‘Scandal’ Inspiration Judy Smith Sells NOLA Political Family Drama ‘House of the Rising Sin’ to NBC

Judy Smith, the political fixer who was Shonda Rhimes’ inspiration for Olivia Pope, is making her own mark on the small screen.

NBC has bought the Smith-produced “House of the Rising Sin,” an African-American family saga about three generations of corrupt politicians in New Orleans set against the backdrop of the Big Easy’s vibrant food and music scenes.

Smith will EP.

That makes for a busy TV schedule for the crisis-management expert, who will continue co-executive producing duties on “Scandal” while assuming the same position for Michelle and Robert King’s upcoming political horror comedy “Brain Dead” for CBS.
