Trailer Watch: Noomi Rapace Plays Seven Identical Sisters in “What Happened to Monday”

“What Happened to Monday”

Noomi Rapace is taking on another ass-kicking role — or rather, roles — in her latest film, “What Happened to Monday.” The “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” star plays seven characters in the Netflix title, all identical sisters.

A trailer has been released for the sci-fi thriller and sees Rapace facing off against a bureau determined to get rid of the sisters and the threat they pose. “For three decades the Child Allocation Bureau has combated catastrophic overpopulation to build a sustainable future full of hope and possibility,” says the head of the org, played by Glenn Close.

The movie is set in the not-so-distant future, and the government has been enforcing a strict One Child Policy. To avoid danger — and death — the seven sisters have been kept in an apartment by their grandfather (Willem Dafoe). One day a week, each gets to go outside. When in public, they all adopt the identity of Karen, an only child.

But seven siblings surviving into adulthood threatens to destroy the reputation of the bureau. So when Monday doesn’t come home one day, her sisters are totally justified in being alarmed and taking action.

Check out how the family responds to Monday’s abduction in the trailer below. “What Happened to Monday” hits Netflix August 18.
