Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone Get Pilot Deal for TV Land Sitcom About Their Groundlings Friends

“Every time a friend succeeds,” wrote Gore Vidal, “I die a little.”

Hopefully this isn’t how Melissa McCarthy’s former Groundlings pals feel in the face of her recent globe-conquering stardom, or they’d be dead a hundred times over. However they feel, they’ll get the chance to express the shock and awe of the “Spy” star’s blockbuster success in “Friends With Melissa,” a TV Land pilot in which three of McCarthy’s old improv partners watch one of their own make it big while they toil away penning kids’ shows.

McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone have landed a pilot deal with TV Land for such a show about her friends, which they’re also slated to executive produce. The show will be written and EP’d by Hugh Davidson, Larry Dorf and Rachel
Ramras. McCarthy will appear in the pilot.

“We are continuing to build our stable of innovative, engaging and
challenging comedies, which is exactly what Melissa, Ben and these
writers have brought us,” said TV Land. “With this script being from a group
of alums from the Groundlings, we’re excited to know they’ll have an
endless amount of creativity and interesting experiences to pull from.”
