Angelina Jolie Options Book on Catherine the Great

The Sony hack revealed that Angelina Jolie has a Cleopatra movie in the works, but it’s looking like Jolie may be adding another legendary female ruler to her resume. The “Unbroken” director’s production company Jolie Pas has optioned “Catherine the Great and Potemkin: The Imperial Love Affair,” a nonfiction book published in 2000.

Catherine was Russia’s longest-reigning female sovereign, and Potemkin an influential figure at court. He also played a major role in Catherine’s personal life — the book claims Potemkin was the love of her life.

We don’t know yet what Jolie’s credits on the film will be, but she’s said she is moving more into behind the scenes work, so maybe this is her next directing project.

Jolie produced, wrote and directed “By the Sea,” which opens November 13 — smack in the middle of awards season. The Oscar-winning actress costars in the film with her husband Brad Pitt as fictional spouses attempting to mend their broken marriage. Vacationing in France, writer Roland (Pitt) and former dancer Vanessa (Jolie) stop at a seaside village and deal with their marital issues with the help of a few locals.
