Trailer Watch: Emily Blunt Heads into a Drug War-Ravaged Juarez in ‘Sicario’

After co-starring in the action-thrillers “Looper” and “Edge of Tomorrow,” Emily Blunt finally leads one of her own in the borderlands-set “Sicario.”

Blunt’s tough but out-of-her-element FBI agent is stuck between the chaotic violence in a drug war-ravaged Juarez and the death-dealing corruption of her new boss (Josh Brolin). The trailer focuses on the psychological toll that Blunt’s character endures, but also offers glimpses into the grit and determination that brought her to battle the cartels in the first place.

No surprise, then, that certain producers asked Blunt’s role to be rewritten for a man. According to reviews out of Cannes, Blunt more than demonstrates that she was absolutely the right woman for the job.

“Sicario” opens September 18.
