Winona Ryder to Star in Supernatural Netflix Series

Nineties icon Winona Ryder, long overdue for a career resuscitation, is heading to TV.

Specifically, to Netflix. Ryder, who seemed poised for a comeback after 2010’s “Black Swan” but hasn’t found suitable starring roles in film, is giving the small screen a try. In her first TV role as a series regular, she’ll star in the untitled eight-episode thriller as the blue-collar mother of a missing toddler.

Previously titled “Montauk,” the show is set in ’80s Long Island, where the missing toddler’s family, their friends, and the police search for the little boy. Variety reports that the toddler’s disappearance will involve “top-secret government experiments, supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.”

The series will debut next year.
