Linda Woolverton, the screenwriter behind many of Disney’s biggest feminist hits (“Maleficent,” Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland,” “Beauty and the Beast”), has signed on to pen “Maleficent 2.”
Woolverton’s revision of the “Sleeping Beauty” fairy tale, which starred Angelina Jolie in a comeback role of sorts, grossed $758 million worldwide in ticket sales. Neither Jolie nor original director Robert Stromberg has yet confirmed their participation in the sequel. (Our suggestion to helm “Maleficent 2”? Woolverton herself, who has made no secret of her desire to go behind the camera.)
Woolverton is also currently at work on the “Alice” sequel “Through the Looking-Glass.”
