Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin Go Public About Their Unfair ‘Grace and Frankie’ Paychecks

Equal work should receive equal pay, while more work should receive more pay, right?

Apparently no such logic exists at Netflix HQ. Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, who star in the new streaming series “Grace and Frankie,” made public their unhappiness with their paychecks from the sitcom, which have the two female leads earning the same amount as their male supporting actors, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston.

“[Tomlin] found out [Waterston and Sheen] are getting the same salary that we are,” said Fonda at a Netflix press day. “That doesn’t make us happy.”

“The show is not ‘Sol and Robert,’” added Tomlin, referring to Waterston and Sheen’s characters. “It’s ‘Grace and Frankie.’”

Fonda and Tomlin join a few other actresses, such as Judy Greer, Charlize Theron and Patricia Arquette, who have made equal pay for women a political issue in Hollywood.
