Elizabeth Banks Chosen as CinemaCon’s Breakthrough Filmmaker of the Year

Elizabeth Banks, who will make her feature directorial debut with “Pitch Perfect 2,” has been named CinemaCon’s Breakthrough Filmmaker of the Year.

CinemaCon is the official convention for the National Association of Theatre Owners. The group earlier designated Amy Schumer its Breakthrough Performer of the Year.

Banks has a busy year ahead of her, with supporting roles in “Pitch Perfect 2,” the Brian Wilson biopic “Love & Mercy,” the stripper sequel “Magic Mike XXL,” the crime mystery “Every Secret Thing,” the no-explanation-needed “Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2,” and Netflix’s TV adaptation of “Wet Hot American Summer.”

“Pitch Perfect 2,” which finds the Barden Bellas competing in a world championship, opens May 15.
