Watch: Millie and Jean Take On a New Case in “The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco”

"The Bletchley Circle": Ed Miller/World Productions

Bletchley Park code-breakers Millie (Rachael Stirling) and Jean (Julie Graham) are taking their crime-solving skills stateside. A new clip for “The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco” sees the duo investigating a friend’s murder in the Bay Area three years after the events of the original “Bletchley Circle” series.

As the spot hints, the killer, or a copycat, has made his way to San Francisco. Millie and Jean, inspecting a crime scene with two American cryptographers, describe the symbol the killer drew on his victims’ palms. Using hobo code, one of the new characters discovers the image’s meaning: “Hold your tongue.”

Turns out the killer has an especially sick sense of humor. “In England the killer left another signature,” Jean reveals. “He cut out Claire’s tongue.”

“The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco” marks streaming service BritBox’s first original series. It will consist of four two-hour episodes. The original “Bletchley Circle” aired on ITV in the UK and PBS in the U.S. and centered on a group of female WWII code-breakers who reunite in the 1950s to track down a serial killer.

“With this new continuation, we have the chance to build on [‘Bletchley Circle’s’] amazing legacy and give its loyal fans an exciting new chapter,” said Soumya Sriraman, president of BritBox.

“Bletchley Circle: San Francisco” will air on BritBox later this summer. A specific premiere date is still TBA.
